Prez Mahama Speaks On Woyome Saga

President John Dramani Mahama has spoken out on the Wayome issue and indicated that his government will do what is lawful.

He said although the Supreme Court has ruled on some judgment debts. the Wayome case is still pending in the High Court. He said “so we have to wait for that process to be determined in the High Court.”

The president was speaking in an exclusive interview with “Africa Watch” magazine published in its September 2014 issue. He said “We have had several rulings, and the Attorney-General is working on them to retrieve those monies.

“Some of these present difficulties because the parties concerned are foreign and do not have significant resources or assets locally.” According to him “there are other cases that were investigated by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and some individuals and companies are being sanctioned or brought before court for trial.

“Other investigations have shown that some companies were paid monies for which the appropriate service was not provided. In those cases, the EOCO is pursuing a refund of those monies.”

President Mahama said his government is vigorously fighting against corruption. He said his government wants to improve procedures and legislation to make sure that no persons can take advantage of them to dupe the state.
