Airtel Ghana, in collaboration with Trace TV, last Tuesday launched the maiden edition of the Airtel Trace Music Star competition in Accra.
The competition, dubbed ‘Call, Sing and Win’, is exclusive to only Airtel subscribers and aims at giving the nation’s music hopefuls the opportunity to come through as budding artistes of any genre or style.
The competition is the first of its kind where contestants can enter by simply calling into the Airtel Trace Star short code of 533 and singing any song of their choice, which should be between a minimum of 15 seconds and a maximum of three minutes. After that, they would receive a text message confirming their participation.
The short code can be assessed from Airtel numbers between now and December 10 after which the best five contestants would be selected for a live televised show in January next year.
The winner of the competition in Ghana would be entered into another competition together with winners from other participating countries for an overall winner who stands the chance of winning a recording deal with Universal Music Group and a mentorship programme with international music star, Akon in the United States of America.
The Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Manu Rajan, said the initiative was in line with Airtel’s commitment to unleash potential amongst the youth to enable them make positive changes in their lives.
The CEO of Trace West Africa, Sam Onyemelukwe, added that the competition demonstrates
Trace TV’s commitment towards Africa’s rising stars.
